These are a few pictures from the 25th anniversary celebration
of the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn
State University. I was one of the founding faculty and am now
emeritus faculty, having retired in 2017.
Dean Andrea Tapia, a trusted Colleague, visited my in Florida
and talked me into attending. She reminded my how loved I was
by the students, and in fact some alums did come to see me! It
was a tribute to a VERY lucky and happy career!
This is a bunch of us outside the IST Bldg.
My friend and former student (also biker) Denise with the nittany lion. Denise is an air force vet, a Mom of two grown boys and an extremely smart Cybersecurity professional.
Some students danced for us. My brother visited and asked how I could stand being surrounded by young women all the time. Its called responsibilty and helped that I thought of many of them as my kids (or grandkids) and was VERY protective of them. The respect went both ways.
Dani was one of my first students she is here talking to Ann Stever, another wonderful person! ani impressed me her very first day of classes. It was a summer class. I would routinely show cool music videos before class began. This day I played King Crimson Lark's Tongue in Aspic. She got up and danced!!! I had never seen anyone dancing to King Crimson but she did it. She clearly had dance training!
This is Prof. Carleen Maitland taking a picture of Dean Tapia!
This is Andrea! She came into IST with a background in sociology. She must have felt a bit like an outsider at first but I loved how he brought an important humanist perspective to what was shaping up to be a tech-intensive College. Note her head tattoo. I had tats when IST began and got more and More as the years went by, always sharing them with my students, who thought they were tre cool! Even some of my colleagues. So Andrea, who has Alopecia. Decided to be brave and have her head tattooed. She did this before becomming Dean! (a tribute to her research) She credits me with breaking the barrier and helping make tattoos acceptible! Cool!

Me. I felt like an honored guest! Suzi said people kept coming to her and telling her how much I inspired them! A job well done!

Andrea, Lisa Lenze, and I'm afraid I do Note remember the other person;s name, they came to IST after I left.
A group of us gathered in the Advising area to reminisce. Althought faculty were not undergraduate advisers, I had MANY students come to me for assistance. So I would go to the extremely helpful people downstairs. There was also a great Instructional Design group and, of course, our World Campus component.
My good friend Stan Supon! He was the Dean of Undergraduate Programs and was extremely pro-student. I would often come to him when a worthy student needed an exception. I will always remember his quote "For every situation there is a rule, and for every rule an exception."
It was lavish affair. For the next day i went back to my traditional blue jeans and t shirt.
