In the 90s, as part of my PhD work in Communication and Information Science, I worked with Phill Cartwright, a top Professor of Education, on distance education delivery. Because of that, when I became an IST Prof. I was put in charge of the World Campus IST programs, and asked to teach a number of classes for the undergrad and graduate online programs.
Although I loved live classes, and treated them as theater, this was an exciting opportunity to sieze. I could freely innovate rather than following the traditional online class. The first thing I introduced was a set of introductory videos explaining what we are covering that week. I would start with a 3-7 min video made from location around State College.
The students loved it!
